Description
Fine carved gilt 18th century or very early 19th century gold gilt wall mirror. Highly carved and detailed with a slight Asian influence with a pagoda style crest flanked by two Ho-Ho birds. The Ho ho bird comes from the mythical Japanese version of the Phoenix. Although most commonly referred to as the Ho ho, the mysterious creature, with a long beak and curving neck, flowing tail, claws and crest takes on many other names, including hood, foo, ho-wo, hobo, how, ho and sacred river. slight joint separate consitent with age as shown see photos for details. Measuring approx 52" tall (just over 4ft ) x 27" wide from bird to bird.
