Aesthetic Movement frog spoons, set of six, and Cymric box
United Kingdom, 1893-1904
silver, enamel, cedar, leather
box: 1.5 h x 3.125 w x 2.625 d in (4 x 8 x 7 cm)
largest spoon: .875 w x 4.625 l in (2 x 12 cm)
These frog spoons were a collaboration between Liberty & Co. and Ozeki Sadajiro of the Musashiya company. The Musashiya company, based in Japan, was established in 1859 by Ozeki Yahei and managed by his son Sadajiro.
Spoons feature terminals with frogs holding lily pad umbrellas and bowls shaped as naturalistic leaves. Box of rectangular form has an enameled roundel, possibly designed by Archibald Knox. Impressed manufacturer's mark to each spoon 'L & Co. SM' with English hallmarks. Impressed manufacturer's mark to side of box and interior 'L & Co. Cymric' with English hallmarks. Sold with an original velvet-lined presentation case. 4.83 ozt. (gross weighable)

Condition
Overall good condition. Some enamel loss to decoration on box and ghost tarnish marks in areas throughout. The lid with a couple small dings and does not sit flush with the base. Joint separation at base of handle of two spoons.
