Dragon robes were worn by the Chinese emperors during ceremonies and festivities under the Qing dynasty. This fine silk example is accentuated with a round collar, large frontal panels, and horse-hoof sleeves. It features gilt-bronze filigree floral buttons and bordered with a gold brocade pattern of the eight treasures. In a classic Qing Dynasty fashion, the robe is ornamented with intricate goldwork dragon embroidery. The dragons are surrounded by polychrome auspicious clouds, juxtaposing with the sea and cliff motifs to the lower portion of the robe, with the eight treasures scattered in between. Two flaming-pearl-playing dragons are also woven into the waist.
