A Chinese Shiwan beast-form incense burner
Qing dynasty
With removable head functioning as a lid and incised fur; three-character mark to underside.
H: 8 3/8, W: 5 1/4, D: 6 3/4 in.
H: 21.27, W: 13.33, D: 17.14 cm.
Provenance: Mrs. Jolovitz, Bethesda, Maryland. Mrs. Jolvitz was born in Shanghai in the 1930s. Her parents left Russia in the 1920s and moved to Harbin, China, then Shanghai and Hong Kong. Eventually, they immigrated to United States in 1950s. These items were collected by Mrs. Jolovitz's mother in Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Condition
Age and use wear throughout. Head-form lid with crack extending from bottom of mouth, filled firing crack to back of head. Old chips throughout.
