Description
Ancient Southeast Asian, Thai, Ban Chiang, circa 300 BCE, ceramic earthenware pottery vase with bichrome red-on-buff colors depicting a swirling geometric design with stippling, the rounded base below a cylindrical neck. Prior repair. 10.25" H x 8" diameter. Provenance: From the collection of Le Lieu and Malcolm Browne (American, 1931-2012), the photojournalist who took the 1963 award-winning photograph of the self-immolation of Buddhist Monk Thic Quang Duc (Vietnamese, 1893-1963). Note: Acquired in 1972 when the photojournalist couple were based in Laos.
